Bassetlaw Hospital Children's Ward Recommended To Remain Closed

Ongoing staffing issues are expected to see the continuation of night closure at Bassetlaw hospital's children's ward.

That's the recommendation being made by the districts clinical commissioning group and hospital.

A decision was made in January to close overnight admissions due to staff shortages.

They say the challenges being faced in recruiting paediatric staff is part of a wider national picture.

Ellen King, who founded the Parents Against Cuts To Bassetlaw Children's Ward said:  "Obviously this is hugely disappointing news though, sadly, not surprising.

"While this is clearly part of a wider, national crisis within the NHS, I firmly believe that solutions can be found by working together with larger hospitals in the area, such as Sheffield Children's, to ensure that Bassetlaw Children's Ward can fully reopen in the future.

"Whilst today's news is a blow, the high number of children still needing to be transferred shows a clear need for a local children's ward and the Trust, our MP, local Councillors and we as a campaign group must continue to focus on how we can ensure the children's ward can reopen fully and that there is no further loss of services at Bassetlaw Hospital."
