Renewed calls to give abandoned Doncaster theatre a new lease of life

Friends of Doncaster's Grand Theatre are calling - once again - for the venue to be given a new lease of life.

The grade II listed building, which is close to Frenchgate and the train station closed back in 1995.

Chair of the Friends group - Margaret Herbert - is hoping to submit a new business plan. The group needs to submit a new one due to recent town centre changes.

She rekons the venue can be restored and says it believes it would play a big part in the community: "It could be used through the day for other things like conferences. It could be used for boxing...it could have a lot of uses - and it could even be something for schools to use."
